Josh's Backstory Josh Zacher is a gay Jewish American stage and screen performer, choreographer, director, and writer. Originally from Fort Wayne, Indiana where he was valedictorian of Canterbury High School, Josh is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he received his BFA in Drama with Honors. Josh is also a graduate of both the Summer Dance Institute at the University of Michigan and Broadway Dance Center's Summer Professional Semester. Josh loves a good sale (especially at an outlet mall), bike riding, high brow (and low brow) cinema, escape rooms, and eccentric museums. Josh is incredibly grateful for the many amazing people and opportunities in his life. He is currently based in New York City. Josh uses He/They pronouns. Josh's Mission Josh is a theatrical creative and artistic educator seeking to elevate the theatrical experience and empower the next generation of artists. He prioritizes new musicals and is always ambitiously expanding the scope and quality of the work for both the artists onstage and the patrons in the house. Josh works from a place of ambition, joy, humor, gratitude, and organization and has a soft spot for queer and Jewish stories. Josh - The Performer As a performer, Josh has showcased his talents on prestigious stages and screens across the country. He served as Dance Captain and ensemble member in the 1st National Tour of The Prom (Direction/Choreography by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw) and portrayed Larry in the National/International Tour of A Chorus Line (Direction/Choreography by Tony Award winner Baayork Lee). He was also part of the world premiere cast of The Elf on the Shelf: The Musical. Regionally, Josh has graced stages at The Kennedy Center, North Shore Music Theatre (The Music Man, Young Frankenstein), Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre (Disney’s The Little Mermaid), The Ordway (West Side Story), Kansas City Starlight, The REV Theatre Co. (Footloose), Theatre By The Sea (Newsies, The Wizard of Oz), The Sharon Playhouse (Les Misérables), Westchester Broadway Theatre (Newsies), and The Wagon Wheel Center for the Performing Arts. Josh has also performed at iconic venues like Times Square, The Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. On screen, he has appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL), Dance Moms, TRL (the reboot), Live with Kelly and Ryan, various music videos, and the independent film Interabled. Josh is a founding member of the New York Theatre Company and a member of Actors’ Equity Association. Josh - The Director/Choreographer Behind the table, Josh has excelled as Associate Choreographer and Resident Director for Glenn Casale and John MacInnis on Disney Theatrical’s sanctioned production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. He has independently maintained and remounted the show at multiple venues nationwide. Josh also served as Associate Director to Rachel Klein and Associate Choreographer to Chase Brock for the world premiere of Esther, a new dance musical starring Sharna Burgess (Dancing with the Stars) and Stephen Hanna (New York City Ballet). Josh - The Teacher In New York City, Josh is guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center and a teaching artist for New York City Center and Ballet Tech, NYC’s Public School for Dance. He is also on the faculty at Applause NYC. Nationally, Josh coaches college dance auditions for MTCA, serves as convention faculty for The Dance Effect and Rock the City, and teaches through Broadway Plus. Academically, Josh has been a guest faculty member and choreographer for prestigious institutions and events, including NYU Tisch, Emerson College, The Master's School, Junior Theatre Festival, the Florida Thespian Festival, Man in Motion, and Koin & Co. He has also taught at various dance studios across the tri-state area. As a seasoned adjudicator, Josh travels nationwide to provide constructive feedback for a variety of dance competitions. |
